A number of attractive places are scattered all along Phuket's coastlines. Following are the places most frequently visited by tourists:

Patong Beach

One of the best beach in Phuket and most popular among domestic and foreign tourists. It is 15 km. from Phuket town; the curved way leading to delightful Patong Beach is pleasant with green hills on both sides. With its white sand against the blue sky, its crystal sea and colourful coral reefs and sea fishes.

Nai Yang Beach

A national park shadowed by a fringe of bright green trees, it is an ideal place for a picnic, swimming and snorkelling among the colourful creature of the sea.

Surin Beach

One of the best places to see the golden sunset of Phuket. One kilometrere to the south of the beach is Sing Cape with sets of beautiful rock formations.

Kata & Karon Beach

Both have become thriving beaches, suitable for holiday makers who look for a tranquil surrounding with sun, sand and sea.

Phromthep Cape

A very special place at the southern most tip of the island where you can view the panorama of its nice surroundings and a striking sunset.

Phuket Town

Old buildings in the Sino-Portuguese style mixed with modern construction form the unique identity of the town of Phuket. An excellent place to view the beautiful scene of the town, especially on a full-moon night, is on top of Khao Rang, a low hill behind the town centre.

Phang-Nga Bay

Because of its fascinating seascape and its short distance (75 km. by road or 3 hrs by boat) from Phuket, tourists of Phuket usually visit Phang-Nga Bay. The Bay is attractive for its numerous unusual limestone out-crops, cliffs and islets which rise from a clear turquoise sea. Pang Nga was made more famous when the James Bond adventure movie, "The Man with the Golden Gun", was party filmed there.

Some More Places to Visit in Phuket

Marine Biological Research Centre: There is a good aquarium here with a variety of both ocean and fresh-water fish. Open daily 08:30-16:00.

Butterfly Garden and Aquarium: This landscaped open-air enclosure contains thousands of colourful butterflies, plus an excellent tropical aquarium. Open daily 09:00- 17:30.

Wat Chalong: One of Phuket's largest Buddhist temples, Wat Chalong situated in the south of the island behind Chalong Bay is highly revered for the images of two of its former abbots who possessed legendary healing skills.

Wat Phra Thong: Located in Thalang District, this temple is famous for its gold (now covered with plaster) Buddha image half-buried in the ground. Legend has it that many people have died trying unsuccessfully to unearth the statue.

Khao Phra Thaeo Wildlife Sanctuary: The last surviving patch of the rainforest that once covered the island. Lush flora plus attractive waterfalls located close to Thalang.

Phi - Phi Island

It is a part of Krabi province, 1.30 hrs. By boat from Rawai beach or 2 hrs from Chalong Bay it is composed of 2 rocky, tree-covered islets. One is Phi-Phi Don where several long white powdery beaches lure visitors to sunbathe and swim, and the other is the higher rocky and Phi Phi Le where thousands of seagulls nest inside the Viking Cave. With its emerald crystal sea, secluded beaches, wooded cliffs and mountains, colourful coral reefs and undersea life, Phi Phi has become a rising star in the Andaman. Visitors to Phuket should not miss it.

Similan Island

The new national-park-on-the sea in Phang-Nga, Similan is famous among tourists, both domestic and foreign, for its uncontaminated water and abundant marine life. It can be reached in about 10 hrs by boat from Phuket or 4 hrs from Thap Lamu Port or Takua Pa in Phang - Nga.
