Rawai Beach holds the distinction of being the first official tourist resort in Phuket. In the past people from Phuket town would drive down to Rawai beach on weekends, to relax and enjoy the sun. Nowadays the Rawai beach is a launch point for boating excursions anround Phuket and the surrounding areas. From Rawai there is easy access to coral island, Koh lane and Phi Phi.

Rawai has a large number of world class hotels and resorts and some of the British expat community live by the waterside. There is a laid back attitude with a tight knit community. Local residents tend to frequent their local bar rather than Patong style bar hopping. There are plenty of retsturants and bars in Rawai Beach although visitors should expect a more subdued atmosphere.

Rawai Beach is located on the south eastern tip of Phuket. Rawai Beach is nestled amongst the quieter and more secluded areas of Nai Harn and Chalong. To the west of rawai is Promthep Cape (Laem Promthep) a peninsula that offers one of the best sunset views in Phuket.
